This wood includes various species of Khaya, with weights ranging from 33 lb/ft³ to 50 lb/ft³. Among these, Khaya Ivorensis is highly prized for its excellent stability and superior working properties. The heartwood initially displays a distinct pink hue when freshly cut, which matures to a range of colors from light pinkish-brown to a deep reddish shade as it seasons. The sapwood is yellowish-brown and may not be clearly differentiated. Featuring an interlocking grain and a coarse texture, this wood benefits from a reduced cutting angle of 15 degrees to minimize surface pickup during shaping.
