This wood includes various species of Khaya, known for their varying densities ranging from 33 to 50 lb/ft3. Among these, Khaya Ivorensis stands out for its excellent stability and superior working properties. The heartwood initially displays a distinct pink hue when freshly cut, which matures into shades from light pinkish-brown to a rich, deep reddish tone. The sapwood is yellowish-brown and may not be clearly distinguished from the heartwood. Featuring an interlocking grain and a coarse texture, this wood responds well to a reduced cutting angle of 15 degrees, which helps minimize surface pick-up during shaping.
